TThe Bandera County Kronkosky Library cordially invites you to participate in a Barbeque & Pork Rib Cook-Off to be held on March 15, 2008 in Bandera. This cook-off is a featured fundraising event of the Sixth Annual Wild Hog Explosion. Join us for a fun filled week-end filled with squeals and spills at the Wild Hog Catch (that’s right, we actually chase, catch and bag wild hogs!), arts and crafts, an all bike rally and of course, the sanctioned Central Texas Barbeque Association (CTBA) Cook-off!

Come join us for CASH PRIZES in each cooking category. Trophies, buckles, and some mighty strong braggin’ rights will be awarded too! (No cash prizes for Best Bloody Mary, Best Margarita, including Best Presentations, Best Pit or Best Theme BUT AWESOME TROPHIES will be awarded!).

The following competitions will be held:

* BEST BLOODY MARY * BEST BEANS * BEST POTATO SALAD

* BEST CHICKEN * BEST PORK RIBS * BEST BRISKET

* BEST MARGARITAS * BEST PIT * BEST THEME

Judging will follow all CTBA sanctioned rules (see Rules of Competition).

We ask the cook teams to donate for sale to the public:

  • two racks of ribs – one for competition and one for sale
  • one chicken for competition,
  • their beans left after competition beans have been pulled, and
  • their potato salad left after competition amount has been pulled

The Library will provide each team:

  • Ample amount of wild hog meat to cook for sale (must be pre-registered by March 3rd)
  • 10 lbs of Kiolabassa Sausage
  • three whole chickens (in addition to the whole chicken provided by the team for competition)

to cook during the day to be sold by the plate for the benefit of the Library (meat for sale must be ready to serve by 12:00 noon or no later that 1:00 p.m.) . The Library will provide all plates, picnic paks, volunteers to serve food and collection of tickets from plate lunch buyers.

Tickets for plate lunches will be sold for $6.00 dollars and will include ice tea.

Come on out to Bandera for a good cause and lots of fun. Great Trophies you can really brag about! Best of all, your total entry fee and supplies are tax deductible contributions to the Bandera Kronkosky Library.

WILD HOG COOK-OFF AGENDA

FRIDAY MARCH 14TH
4:30 p.m. Pre set-up starts. Meat for each team provided at team’s arrival for set up. Be prepared to keep meat refrigerated.
7:00 p.m. Cook-Off Pre-Party begins. BYOB
SATURDAY MARCH 15TH
5:30 a.m. Gates open for set up. Meat for each team provided at team’s arrival for set up. Be prepared to keep meat refrigerated.
9:30 a.m. Set up complete. Pork Sheriff will be by each camp to check Meat entries.
10:00 a.m. Bloody Mary Competition Begins. All Entries must include 6 glasses of Bloody Mary’s. Prizes will be awarded to 3rd, 2nd,1st, and Grand Champion Bloody Mary. One Best Presentation award will also be given for this category.
10:00 a.m. Turn in Potato Salad entries for competition. Take extra potato salad to serving area. Prizes will be awarded to 3rd, 2nd,1st, and Grand Champion Bloody Mary.
11:00 a.m. Turn in Bean entries for competition. Take extra beans to serving area. Each team will be given a 16 oz container to present beans to judges. Beans may be soaked over night. No ingredients in the beans can be bigger than the bean! Awards will be given to 3rd, 2nd,1st, and Grand Champion Beans. Give up your best shot!
12:00 p.m. Turn in meat for sale. This can be done in stages according to when done. Sausage, wild hog, and three chickens.
12:15 p.m. Lunches begin to be sold.
1:00 p.m. Turn in Chicken for competition. Each entry will be given a clam shell plate to put competition meat in. Prizes will be awarded for 3rd, 2nd,1st, and Grand Champion. Cash prizes and trophy for Grand Prize and trophy for 1st Place only. Ribbons for 2nd Place and 3rd Place.
2:00 p.m. Pork-Rib Competition Begins. Each team will be given a Clam shell container to present competition meat to judges. Cash awards and trophy will be given for Grand Champion Pork-Ribs and a trophy awarded for 1st Place. Ribbons will awarded for 2nd and 3rd Place.
3:00 p.m. Best Brisket Competition Begins. Each team will be given a Clam shell container to present competition meat to judges. Cash awards and trophy will be given for Grand Champion Brisket and a trophy awarded for 1st Place. Ribbons will awarded for 2nd and 3rd Place.
3:30 p.m. Theme and Best Pit judging from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. Now’s the time to put on your best show! One award per Category.

4:30 p.m.

Best Margarita Competition. Each entry must include six glasses of Margarita. Awards will be given for 3rd, 2nd,1st, and Grand Champion Margarita. One award will also be given for Best Presentation in this category.
6:00 p.m. Awards & AFTER PARTY!
